SUMMARY:Espacio Séneca Exhibition ‘Ahab and the white whale. Manuel Marsol’.
DESCRIPTION:The author is the only Spanish winner of the International Illustration Prize at the Bologna Book Fair and celebrates ten years since the publication of his reinterpretation of Moby Dick.\nManuel Marsol reinterprets Herman Melville’s classic Moby Dick in this illustrated album that takes a humorous look at the world of obsessions in a game of misunderstandings and clues between text and illustration. Ahab searches anxiously for the whale without realising that it is always right in front of him. A metaphor for how obsessions can sometimes lead to blindness.\nThe project is designed in such a way that the spectator, both adults and children, can interact through the work. The aim is to encourage a taste for the sea, its flora and fauna, and to raise awareness of its care and conservation; to cultivate interest in the world of whales; to educate in art, encourage creativity and develop curiosity and to promote knowledge of Melville’s work, a classic of universal literature.\nContent\nThe exhibition includes 28 original drawings, 31 sketches and style proofs, 19 giclée prints, an artist’s notebook and the two editions of the illustrated album Ahab and the White Whale. It is also accompanied by a video of the artist’s digital process on the originals.\nIn this way, it brings together the original illustrations, the final artwork and the creative process that Marsol carried out to make the album Ahab y la ballena blanca (Edelvives, 2014 – Fulgencio Pimentel, 2024) a decade ago.\nOpening times: Tuesday to Saturday from 10.30 am to 1.30 pm and from 5 pm to 8 pm.\nSundays from 10.30 am to 1.30 pm.\nMondays closed\n
