It is one of the oldest active bullrings in the Valencian Community and an important symbol of the city. Opened in 1888 after decades of construction under the direction of architect Jose Guardiola Pico, its monumental structure reflects the complexity of its construction. Originally capable of holding over 15,000 spectators, the bullring features notable facilities such as the large horse ring, the bullpens, the infirmary, and a chapel, all maintaining their historical essence. Today, it can accommodate more than 11,600 spectators, and its circular design ensures a perfect view from any point within the venue. The Bullring (Plaza de Toros) has been renovated several times, with a significant refurbishment in 1986 that improved accessibility and safety. For visitors interested in learning more about Alicante’s history and traditions, a visit to the Bullring offers an authentic journey into the past, full of historical events. Currently, the venue hosts numerous events: from bullfights to concerts and family activities or events related to the Hogueras de San Juan.
The Taurine Museum of Alicante (Museo Taurino de Alicante), located inside the Bullring (Plaza de Toros), is a cultural space dedicated to promoting the history of bullfighting in the city and province. Opened after the last major renovation of the bullring, it features a rich collection of historical objects, artworks, and documents spanning centuries of tradition.
