Principal Theatre Area

From the Plaza Puerta del Mar, walking along the Explanada, we head towards the Rambla. This avenue, the city’s main artery, reveals an area behind Calle Teniente Coronel Chapuli where fashion boutiques, footwear stores, accessories, decorations, and delicatessen shops can be found. Calle Gerona, Castaños, and Teatro are some of the main streets. On the latter, you can also visit the Principal Theatre (Teatro Principal) and the Military Government, along with some of the oldest buildings in the city.

Central Market Area

Heading towards the Rambla, we discover the Central Market of Alicante (Mercado Central de Alicante) at its end. This iconic building is a landmark of the city, where you can experience the charm of a traditional market and its timeless quality. Nearby, you will find another shopping area along Avenida Alfonso el Sabio, and a bit farther away, Calle San Vicente and Calle Calderon de la Barca. Both streets offer a wide variety of shops. At the end of Alfonso el Sabio, you will come across a unique and charming square: Plaza de los Luceros, a modernist masterpiece by the brilliant Bañuls. If you choose Calle San Vicente, you will find our Bullring at the end, along with the Alicante Bullfighting Museum (Museo Taurino de Alicante), where you can explore the art of bullfighting.

From the Explanada, we can head toward the Rambla. If we follow Calle Gerona to its end, we reach the city’s nerve center: Maisonnave. It hosts large shopping centers, brand stores, and international franchises.

Explanada de España

Walking along the Explanada, you will find a versatile craft market with numerous stalls offering clothing, leather goods, and decorations – perfect souvenirs from your visit. From this beautiful promenade, you can head to Plaza de Gabriel Miro. In this romantic spot, you will find bars and restaurants, perfect for a break before continuing to Calle San Francisco, a themed street filled with shops you will love.
