Santa Barbara Castle is located at the summit of Monte Benacantil, 166 meters above sea level. It is home to one of the largest medieval fortresses in Spain, offering stunning views of Alicante Bay.
It has three enclosures at different heights and from 3 different periods: In the highest enclosure ('La Torreta') you can find the Homage Tower and the oldest remains of the fortress, most of which date back to the 14th century. The intermediate enclosure houses the most important facilities that were built in the 16th century, such as: • The Felipe II Hall • The Guard Corps • The Parade Ground • The Queen's Bastion. The lower enclosure dates from the 18th century and houses the so-called Revellin del Bon Repos.

La fortaleza permanecerá cerrada los días 24, 25 y 31 de diciembre, el 1 y 6 de enero, y el 24 de junio. |
How to get there
- Shuttle buses from Plaza Puerta del Mar
- Elevators at Avenida Juan Bautista Lafora, in front of the Postiguet Beach
- Access by Calle Vazquez de Mella for vehicles and urban itineraries.
- Parking on the grounds of Santa Barbara Castle is not permitted.
- Pedestrian access along urban routes is recommended.

Group tours
For group visits (school group visits, Imserso excursions, programmed excursions, etc.), the following form must be completed.
- All fields in this form must be filled out and sent to info@castillodesantabarbara.com at least 48 hours before the visit.
- Reservations made more than 3 months in advance are not accepted.
- Submitting this form does not guarantee a reservation. You will receive a response regarding your request.
- Reservations for coach access may be revoked by the Alicante Town Hall due to force majeure or reasons of general public interest, without any right to compensation.

Access through La Ereta Park
This itinerary begins with a walk through the streets of the Old Town, leading to La Ereta Park. From there, you can enjoy spectacular views of the city, nearby towns, and the Mediterranean Sea.
Access through Monte Benacantil
Visitors are encouraged to ascend the fortress, enjoying views of Postiguet Beach from Calle Virgen del Socorro. The route includes a path along the western slope of Monte Benacantil, offering breathtaking views of northern Alicante and the surrounding mountains.
Vehicle access
Only in the following cases:
- Loading and unloading of passengers for the time strictly necessary: cabs, VTC, people with reduced mobility, and minibusses (length 8.50m and mass 6,800kg).
- Visitors must follow the instructions of the municipal staff at all times.
- Authorized coaches accessing the castle must be no longer than 8.50 meters and weigh no more than 6,800 kilograms. Drivers must follow all instructions and guidelines provided by local police officers.
- This authorization is limited to passenger drop-off and pick-up only. After drop-off, the coach must leave the castle and return later for passenger pick-up.
